Factores afectivo-emocionales incidentes en el rezago de estudiantes universitarios. Caso de la carrera de Doctor en Odontología de la UdelaR

El fenómeno del rezago universitario se encuentra estrechamente vinculado a la problemática de la deserción y desvinculación de la Universidad; temas centrales que han ocupado un lugar en la agenda educativa de nuestro país.
Es en la línea de los problemas de enseñanza universitaria que se inscribe la presente investigación, focalizándose en la temática del rezago. Se selecciona la Facultad de Odontología de la Universidad de la República para este estudio procurando establecer los factores afectivo-emocionales que subyacen al rezago o fracaso escolar universitario. La investigación se propuso dar a conocer algunos de los aspectos inconscientes que atraviesan al estudiante en su aprendizaje, al constatarse que no existen en nuestro medio, estudios sobre esta temática.
Su finalidad ha sido producir conocimiento sobre estos factores no abordados hasta el momento de modo de contribuir a una mayor comprensión de los obstáculos no conscientes ni manifiestos que inciden en el rezago en la comunidad universitaria.»
«En esta investigación se ha utilizado una metodología cualitativa de tipo exploratorio ya que su objeto de estudio refiere a procesos subjetivos, adoptando como estrategia el estudio de casos. Se ha basado en un enfoque interpretativo de los instrumentos empleados. Los instrumentos de recolección de datos utilizados con los estudiantes que presentan rezago han sido entrevistas en profundidad y el dispositivo gráfico Situación Persona Aprendiendo y entrevistas en profundidad a informantes calificados.»

The issue of academic lag of university students is closely related to the problem of abandonment and disengagement, which have become main topics of the educational agenda of our country.
This research addresses the difficulties of university teaching, with a focus on the subject of low educational achievement. The School of Dentistry of the University of the Republic (UDELAR) was chosen for this study with the purpose of establishing the emotional and affective factors underlying the academic lag or failure at the University.
Since we have no studies on this matter in our context, this research approaches the unconscious facts that affect students’ learning.
Its goal is to generate knowledge about these factors, unaddressed thus far, in order to further a better understanding of both the non-conscious and manifest hindrances that have an impact on the falling behind of the university community.
The methodology applied was of a qualitative and exploratory kind, given that the subject of study refers to subjective processes. Case study was the strategy adopted. The research is based on an interpretative approach of the instruments employed. Data gathering instruments used with lagging students included in-depth interviews, the Learning Person Situation graphic device, and in-depth interviews with qualified informants.
Based on data analysis and considering the conditions and institutional characteristics of the training center mentioned above, poor resources and insufficient psychic availability to face obstacles along the learning process have been detected.
Finally, some recommendations are made in order to open a space for the discussion of ideas and suggestions that might contribute to the finding of possible solutions to the problem of academic lag and the analysis of the issue.
